Tribe Ndebele traditional African neck choker.

This choker is called “Idzila” in the Ndebele language. It was historically worn by married Ndebele women as a symbol of their bond and faithfulness to their husbands. The husband was responsible for providing the “Idzila ” to his wife as a way of showcasing to the tribe his wealth and family status. The more “Idzila” a wife wore, the wealthier the husband was assumed to be. In the Ndebele culture, the “Idzila” represents the African woman as a warrior and protector of her home.
